Objectives: This study aims to exam the prevalence of dental anxiety in an undergraduate population of universities in Chengdu, and to evaluate contributing risk factors in this population, therefore to provide clinical guidance in future dental anxiety management.Methods: College students from 6 universities in Chengdu were selected as study subjects (total sample size 749).All subjects were distributed Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) questionnaire to evaluate dental anxiety.Furthermore,State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and some related factors (gender, specialty, dental clinic experience, painful dental clinic experience of people around) were added.Related factors were compared with the level (severe versus low/not)of dental anxiety derived from the MDAS questionnaire.The level of dental anxiety was estimated by t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Student-Newman-Keuls, Chi-Square tests and logistic regression.
