This talk will focus on the behavior of suspension cells in response to mechanical stimuli like pressure shock and enforced oscillation. In particular,we show that a sudden increase/reduction in medium pressure, within the physiological range, leads to cross-membrane fluxes of sodium and potassium ions in leukemia cell lines K562 and HL60,resulting in reversible volumetric deformation with a characteristic time around 30 minutes.
