Objective To analyze the association between thyroid function, reflected by thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, and insulin resistance (IR) or lipid parameters in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women.Methods Between January 2010 to March 2013, 165 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)were recruited to this study.If the upper limit of the serum TSH euthyroid reference range is maintained to 4.5mIU/L, there were 11 PCOS women with SCH (group PCOS+SCH) and 154 with euthyroid (group PCOS).And if the upper limit of serum TSH is reduced to 2.5mIU/L, there were 51 PCOS women with SCH(group PCOS+SCH) and 114 with euthyroid (group PCOS).Recording of clinical, hormonal, biochemical profile and parameters of insulin resistance.Results PCOS women with thyroid-stimulating hormone ≥2.SmIU/l had a significantly higher serum FINS,HOMA-IR,QUICKI,TG indices and lower HDL concentrations than those with thyroid-stimulating hormone<2.5mIU/l(P<0.05).PCOS women with thyroid-stimulating hormone≥4.5mIU/l had a significantly higher serum FINS、 HOMA-IR、 QUICKI indices than those with thyroid-stimulating hormone <4.5mIU/l(P< 0.05).Conclusion(s) SCH exert adverse effects on insulin resistance and dyslipidemia in PCOS patients.A TSH cut-off value around 2.5mIU/l had the better sensitivity for identifying PCOS patients with dyslipidemia.
