  In this paper, we presented a facile method to fabricate a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for preconcentration and detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).The large silica surface modified with functional group was decorated and coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by reduction of silver nitrate with sodium citrate, and then the thiol-functional group was self-assembled onto AgNPs to improve its capacity of concentrating aromatic molecules from aqueous solution.
