Generation of cylindrical-vector beams in a mode-locked all-fiber laser

  We report the direct generation of cylindrical-vector beams with a temporal duration of 6.9 ps in a mode-locked fiber laser using a carbon nanotube saturable absorber.By offset splicing single-mode fiber and two-mode fiber,a part of the fundamental mode is converted into azimuthally-or radially-polarized beams.With a two-mode fiber Bragg grating,the residual fundamental mode is reflected back the radially-or azimuthally-polarized cylindrical-vector beam is exported from the laser.Such ultrafast cylindricalvector beams exhibit unique features both in the temporal domain and spatial domain,providing a unique light source for nonlinear optics,laser machining,and nanoparticle manipulation.
