Primary angioplasty is the treatment of choice for ST elevation myocardial infarction.Any time delay in revascularization affects infarct size and increase 1-year mortality.In our center we shorten the time to balloon by rearrariging the organization of treatment for STEMI patients, by early diagnosis in the ambulance, bypassing the emergency room and direct hospitalization in the cardiac care unit, and performing cardiac catheterization in the special treatment room of the CCU, by the CCU staff.Over 1000 patients have been treated in this method.Comparing the outcome of"fast track" to patient arriving through the emergency room we found significant time benefit of about 40 minutes, and reduce mortality in a one year follow up.
