Electrooxidation of formic acid has attracted considerable attention in the past few years due to the great potential of direct formic acid fuel cell (DFAFC) applications.Recently, noble Pd catalysts were found to possess superior performances in formic acid electrooxidation in DFAFC compared with Pt-based catalysts. However, high cost and insufficient catalytic activity of Pd/C catalysts is still hindered the development and commercialization of DFAFC.In order to develop cost-effective and efficient catalysts, two research approaches have been carried out for many years.one is to explore nonmetal or metal promoters, and the other is to seek new synthetic routes of Pd/C catalysts with uniformly-sized and highly-dispersed nanostructure.
