Various thermal methods are used for recovering very viscous oils from reservoirs.These processes are energy intensive with high CO2 emission.The reduction of green house gas emission during heavy oil production is achieved through using a non-thermal enhanced heavy oil recovery method.The use of cold water to introduce an alkali solution into the heavy oil reservoirs can emulsify the viscous heavy oil in place thereby allowing it to flow and be recovered out of the oil formations.
