The metabolome is the collection of all metabolites in a cell, tissue, or organism.Consequently, determining the metabolome can provide important insights into a wide range of cellular processes with applications ranging from understanding differences in normal and pathological physiologies to environmental and pharmacological affects.In this talk, I will present our approach to studying the metabolome of mammalian ceils using a combination of mass spectrometry and other methods.Specific applications will focus on the effect of transfecting cells with quantum dots and the effects of hypoxia on stem cell metabolism.
