  Taking advantage of the favorable environmental conditions, i.e.sheltered bays (Rias), moderate water temperature (10-20℃) and high primary productivity, Galicia became the biggest producer in Europe of suspension cultured mollusks, mainly blue mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis.Here we summarize the attempts for developing scallop aquaculture as an option to diversify the present mussel production.
