Treatment of neuropathic pain remains an unmet clinical challenge.Excessive activation of glutamate receptors in the spinal dorsal horn is one of the most critical mechanisms leading to abnormal neuronal activation of the pain signaling pathway in neuropathic pain.Activation of glutamate receptors is governed by three key factors: the amount of glutamate release from presynaptic terminals, the function of postsynaptic glutamate receptors, and the function of glutamate transporters (GTs).
