Alternate carbon and lipid metabolic pathways underlie arsenite oxidation in Agrobacterium tumefacie

  Agrobacterium tumefaciens GW4 is a heterotrophic,aerobic arsenite [As(Ⅲ)]-oxidizer.Different with other well-recognized heterotrophic As(Ⅲ)-oxidizing strains,the growth of strain GW4 improves with the addition of As(Ⅲ).The generated arsenate was suggested to involve in the synthesis of polar lipids.In this study,proteomics,qRT-PCR and analysis of ATP,NADH and metabolites were employed to determine the cellular responses to As(Ⅲ).Twenty-seven differentially expressed proteins/genes were identified and primarily classified as involved in the metabolism of As,Pi,carbohydrate,lipid,energy and motility.The cellular concentrations of NADH and ATP increased with As(Ⅲ).
