Tibetan macaque (Macaca thibetana), also known as the Chinese stump-tailed macaque, is a threatened primate species in China.Tibetan macaques are in the genus of Macaca, and belong to the group of Old World monkeys..However, limited age-or gender-related physiological data is available for this particular species.Sixty-nine apparently healthy Tibetan macaques of both genders were used to explore the effect of age and gender on physiological parameters.Somatometric measurements, biochemistry and hematological parameters were analyzed.Significant age-related differences were found for weight, body mass idex (BMI), red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, neutrophils, eosinophils, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transferase, creatine kinase-MB, lactate dehydrogenase, or-amylase, creatinine, apolipoprotein A-l, total protein, albumin, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, potassium.Significant differences by sex were observed for weight, BMI, ALT, total bilirubin, and indirect bilirubin.An interaction between age and sex accounted for statistically significant differences in the values of weight, BMI,lymphocyte, and eosinophils.These physiological data will provide veterinarians and researchers with important age-and gender-specific reference ranges to evaluate experimental results in Tibetan macaque.
