Immersive virtual reality and augmented reality(VR/AR)are emerging head-mounted display technologies with potential applications for entertainment,education,training,design,advertisement,and medical diagnostics.In a VR/AR display system,several liquid crystal devices are being used,such as microdisplay for generating images,beam steering for eye tracking,and tunable transmission liquid crystal film for enhancing the ambient contrast ratio.In microdisplay,transmissive LCD and OLED,and reflective LCoS are three competing technologies,while micro-LED array is under active development.
