  Seismic isolation retrofit has been applied to the old buildings with low earthquake resistance since the end of 1990s in Japan However,there are various issues on specific buildings to carry out the retrofitting.This project is a retrofit of a ward office located in the weak ground area in Tokyo,which is expected to be a base in the event of earthquake disaster and requires a high shockproof.One of the problems is that the building must be usable for citizens under retrofitting work.To limit the repair work area,isolation devices were installed introducing pre-stress individually to avoid the local deformation of the structure.Another problem is that the ground of the site may liquefy by an earthquake and it might reduce the effectiveness of long vibration period of the structure acquired by isolation.We took measures for the liquefaction by improving ground in the wall form placed in the shape of lattice.
