Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States, UK, Australia and other Asian countries including China. Most of the established risk factors for breast cancer (including ageing, a previous cancer diagnosis, reproductive history and a genetic predisposition) cannot be modified so the potential for prevention is limited.Lifestyle changes through exercise, healthy diet and avoidance of obesity may have shown to be valuable. At this stage, early detection remains the major strategy for reducing death and illness from the disease. When breast cancer is detected early, subsequent treatment will generally result in better long-term prognosis.Benefits of early detection may include increased survival and/or improved quality of life due to less invasive treatment. The presentation will cover a comprehensive overview of early detection modalities and their recommendations including mammography, clinical breast exams and breast self-exams.It will also review the latest state of science on evidence-based and theoretically-sound behavioral interventions on effective strategies to promote screening among Asianwomen.Early detection of breast cancer can lead to greater likelihood of cure.
