  Insomnia is common which disturbs suffers' life, work and learning.Its cause is complicated.There are multiple methods to treat insomnia.Drug therapy is the main intervention and accompanied by non-drug therapy.By present, cognitive behavioral treatment and relaxation training are mostly reported among non-drug therapy for insomnia.This article will illustrate a new approach for insomnia in China.It is sleep regulation technique of Thought Imprint Psychotherapy under Low Resistant State.It includes emotion-excluding technique, environment-adjusting technique, sleep belief strengthening technique, cognition-modifying technique, etc.The technique originated from practice.Such phenomenon are common: (1) patients unable to regulate emotion are easy to getting insomnia if excited or angry before sleep;(2) patients consider bad environment is the cause of insomnia and they are critical on environment;(3) sleep confidence will decrease if patients underwent insomnia and they doubt whether they can sleep again;(4) someone has compulsive inclination and they stick to an unchangeable schedule.If they do not sleep as the schedule asked they will unable to sleep;(5) someone overrates sleep role and they consider all the discomforts during daytime are caused by insomnia.And they take a sound sleep as the only way to solve these problems;(6) some patients using hypnotic drug worry about the adverse aspects of drug which bring them burden on sleep.However, we think that sleep is normal function of arousal-repression rhythm of brain.If there is too much attention, or anxiety, brain will be over-arousal which disturbs sleep state.Sleep regulating technique base on this viewpoint and use specified techniques to make patients accept emotion regulation methods, cognition adjusting methods, and confidence-strengthening methods without criticizing.In the end, patients will develop a natural sleep behavior.The proof of sleep regulation of TIP: two projects funded by natural science foundation of China were done in our department.They are the mechanism study of Chinese medical non-drug therapy on depression associated with insomnia (NO.30772845) and the mechanism study of Chinese medical relaxation methods on insomnia (NO.81072854).They provide proof for TIP sleep regulation technique on insomnia.In the latter one, TIP sleep regulation technique was controlled with ZPL randomly.There is no significance between groups on the result of polysomnography.However, results from PSQI proves that daytime function of TIP improves significantly.
