Five recent "hot topics" in lightning research were reviewed,and some information regarding our work on the calculation and simulation of lightning electromagnetic pulse (LEMP)field and its applications were introduced in this report.In order to make the calculation of LEMP more efficiently,a pulse function was proposed to represent the lightning return-stroke current.On the basis of this,the validity analysis of six different engineering return-stroke models in reproducing the characteristic features of measured lightning electromagnetic fields was presented.Based on the MTLL model,the influences of the return-stroke parameters on lightning electromagnetic fields were discussed.Based on the TL model,the approximate characteristic between LEMP and the channel-base current was validated theoretically.According to the calculated results,the electric field was simulated in GTEM cell by the feed-in of pulse voltage from the shock wave generator,and the magnetic field was simulated among the loop by the feed-in of pulse voltage from the lightning surge generator.The electric field was measured by a dipole antenna,and the magnetic field was measured by a dot loop.At last,some experimental investigations using the simulators on the lightning electromagnetic environmental effects were presented.
