SHPB system with large-diameter and Nylon bars introducing an improved loading device to that proposed by Hou et al.[1] (steel sleeve to increase stiffness and to avoid the Teflon sleeve swelling and misalignment of loading), is used in order to investigate the dynamic behavior of aluminum honeycombs under mixed compression/shear loadings(ψ angle) and, as a novelty, under various cells in-plane orientation (β angle).A preliminary detailed FEM analysis of the SHPB system with the loading device and the specimen allows to highlight a phenomenon of separation between the input bar and the input beveled bar due to a cutting of the reflected wave.An electro optical extensometer is then employed in experiments.
