Consumers in China have suffered from an increasingly greater concern over the confidence in its food system in recent years and the development of Chinas hog farming industry, specifically, has been plagued by many serious factors which affect quality and productivity of hogs. While it has maintained an average annualized growth rate of 10.7%over the five years leading up through 2014,demand for pork often sees a sharp reduction due to occasional occurrences of animal diseases and epidemics such as swine fever or chemical contaminations. These issues have been partially attributable to a dramatic rise in Chinas food safety stemming from reports of food contamination and numerous food safety accidents involving pathogens such as outbreaks of E.coli and Salmonella. As a result, there is a growing need in China to recapture the trust of consumers that the Chinese food supply is safe. The rest of this paper is organized as follows.First,we review previous published literature in related areas.Second,we describe the survey and data.Third,we present empirical methods and model specification.Fourth,we discuss the empirical results. Finally,we summarize the major findings.
