To reduce membrane fouling problem,coagulation is proposed as a pretreatment process to remove dissolved organic matters and colloids(<1μm)in raw water.However,appropriate coagulation conditions for precipitation process might not lead to optimum membrane filtration performance.Coagulation process,influenced by pH,coagulant categories and dose,and etc.,produces micro-sized flocs(>1μm)by neutralizing particles surface charge or forming sweep flocs.Nevertheless,many studies reported that the behaviour of nano-sized flocs(<0.2μm),which is thought to be the main foulants,was different from that of micro-sized flocs under same condition.
