One of the major challenges to numerical modeling of wave phenomena in time domain formulations is controlling numerical dispersion,an artificial dependence of wave propagation speed on the wave-frequency.Numerical dispersion is present in all discrete models of wave phenomena and produces the major contribution to longtime integration error. Therefore, reduction of numerical dispersion is essential for accuracy of numerical simulations.
