  Properties of hafnia,HfO2,such as high density(~10 g/cm3),wide band gap(~5.5 eV),high effective atomic number(67.2)and chemical stability make it an attractive host for inorganic scintillators.Hafnia crystalizes in four different crystallographic structures: cubic,monoclinic,tetragonal and or orthorhombic.The first of them is stable at ambient conditions.Luminescent properties of hafnia doped with different activators were reported.
