Growth and Spectroscopic Properties of Er3+/Yb3+-codoped Sr3Y2(BO3)4 Crystal

  Single crystal of yb3+/Er3+:Sr3Y2(BO3)4 with great quality has been grown by Czochralski method.The absorption and emission spectra were investigated.The absorption band at 980 nm has an absorption coefficient of 5.15 cm-1 and FWHM of 8.5 nm.Based on Judd-Ofelt theory,the spectral parameters were investigated.The intensity parameters Ωλ are:Ω2 =4.438× 10-20cm2,Ω4 =1.92× 1020cm2,Ω6 =1.799× 10-20cm2.The radiative probabilities Ar,the radiative lifetime τrad,the fluorescence branching ratios β,and emission cross-sections were also calculated.The emission cross sections σem at 1536nm were calculated to be 6.96× 10-21cm2.Energy transfer process from Yb3+ to Er3+ was interpreted.The energy-transfer rate and efficiencies were calculated to be 1.65ms-1 and 64%,which show a strong energy transfer from Yb3+ to Er3+.From the spectra analysis and calculated results we can see by co-doping Yb3+ in Er3+ doped Sr3Y2(BO3) crystal the laser efficiency of Er3+ in yb3+/Er3+:Sr3Y2(BO3)4 crystal could be enhanced.
