Three strategies for the area-wide management of Aedes albopictus (Skuse) larvae are discussed.Truck mounted equipment was utilized to apply liquid Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis.Bioassays demonstrated greater than 80% mortality at distances beyond 100 m.In a second strategy the growth regulator pytiproxyfen was dispersed with backpack mist blowers to mosquito resting and larval habitats. In addition to excellent direct mortality, autodissemination was evident at distances up to 200 m and increased with time.A third strategy employed biodegradable autodissemination stations to contaminate gravid mosquitoes with pyriproxyfen.Laboratory evaluations of such stations are discussed.
