El Salvador has one of the worlds highest cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates.To improve cervical cancer screening, the Ministry of Health (MOH), in cooperation with Basic Health International, has introduced additional screening techniques, such as visual inspection with acetic acid and, most recently, an HPV DNA-based screening demonstration project.
