Alkanolamines have been used to enable early and late strength development of Portland cement and blended cements for more than eight decades.Common alkanolamines used are triethanolamine (TEA), diethanol isopropanolamine (DEIPA) and tri-isopropanolamine (TIPA).Even though some of the amines have been in use for many decades, the nature of how they impact cement hydration and why the strength enhancement provided varies over time with different cement compositions are not fully known.
