Cattail plant (Typha) is an aquatic or semiaquatic emergent perennial.The soft and young lateral rhizomes,which are used as vegetable,are rich in sugar,protein,vitamin C and amino acids.The growth,quality and yield of three Typha from different places (cv.Zhejiang,cv.Anhui and cv.Lianping) were studied.Plant height of cv.Zhejiang was the highest,and that of cv.Lianping was the lowest.Stem diameter and leaf width of cv.Anhui were the largest,and those of cv.Zhejiang were the smallest.There were the highest concentrations of soluble sugar,soluble protein,vitamin C,free amino acids and total sugar in cv.Zhejiang,while lowest concentrations of those in cv.Lianping.There was the highest yield in cv.Anhui,and the lowest in cv.Lianping.
