Onsite production of hydrogen fuel for the direct integration in a fuel cell system requires the hydrogen generator to be compact, low cost, safe and simple to operate.Such a generator is designed and fabricated to comprise a catalytic heater,a SRR catalyst and CO-remover [1]; the generator has a high heat transfer capability with U-value over 200W/M2-hr and a thermal efficiency of 85%.This compact methanol reformer generates a reformate with H2(68-70%),CO(2-7ppm) and balance of CO2 and N2; the gas is direct used for a fuel cell system with stable power output without CO-poison[2].A 2.0 SM3 /hr (CMH) reformer set excluding the BOP has a dimension of 200mmDx300mmWx200mmH and weight of 30kg and is capable of providing 1.8KW power output with a total consumption of 700 g/hr of methanol. This hydrogen generator is now widely used in the fuel cell industry of Taiwan for up to 5KW power system.
