It will be discussed how the healthcare in USA to adopt information technology. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) 2009 and the Centers for Medicare&Medicaid Services Medicare EHR Incentive Program 2011 were two major steps. Especially in EHR incentive program, a phased approach had been used including data capture and sharing, advance clinical processes and improved outcomes. The criteria of measuring the "meaningful use" for this program has been established. What have learned from the programs by both healthcare providers and physicians standpoint views and what are the challenges will be discussed. As the special case of acupuncture practices in China, EHR/IH development in China will be discussed. If wed like to reach the same goal to improve the quality and safety for the patients and to improve the acupuncture practice, one of the critical steps is to incorporating emerging information technologies in acupuncture education.
