  IL-27, one of the members of the IL-12 family, has recently been shown to be an important immunoregulatory cytokine involved in the immune response.Recent studies have shown that IL-27 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine, involved in the regulation of Th17 activation.During the development of EAU, IL-27 inhibited uveitogenic T cells and suppressed the expansion of Th17 cells in the retina.9 It is not yet known whether IL-27 also plays a role in the pathogenesis of human uveitis and was therefore the subject of the studies presented here.
