Bolivia has an area of 1,098,581 km2 of which 43% corresponds to the Amazon region.This region is shaped by a complex mosaic of extensive upland and floodplain forests,flooded savannas,and sub-Andean mountain forests.At the basin scale,the Amazon in Bolivia is the most important covering 65 % of the country,which corresponds to 95 % of the upper Madera River one of the major tributary of the Amazon River.This context constitutes a major threat to the Amazonian forests and seriously jeopardizes the territorial integrity and food security of rural Amazonian people,in particular indigenous people whose main source of life is found within their territories.
