The sustainable development have already been an important program of the international commom action. The core of sustainable development is the coordinated development in between population, society , economy, science and technology, environment and resources. So the premise on which we can work out and carry out the sustainable development strategy is the evaluation and analysis of the coordinated development in between population, society , economy, science and technology, environment and resources. It is a problem to be concerned by people how to evaluate and analyse the coordinated development. By using the modern system theory and method, this paper studies systematically the theory and method of the coordinated developmwent. The main content of the paper is as fowllows:Firstly, the study of the basic theories of the coordinated development. Included in the section are the studies in the concept of coordinated development, the structrue, function and characters of coordinated development system.Secondly, the study of the foundation of the coordinated development method theory, especially the study of the application of self - organization theory for the reseachers of the coordinated development .
