The study was on a comparative study of Ghanaian and Chinese Elementary School Teacher Education: A study between the University of Cape Coast-Ghana and Shaoxing University-China.The purpose of this study was to investigate using a comparative approach, the pre-service teacher education between Ghana and China, with University of Cape Coast in Ghana and Shaoxing University in China as teacher preparation institutions for this comparative study. That is to say the researcher explored how teachers are trained in Ghana to teach at the basic education level as compared that of China using the two universities mentioned above as a point of reference. The research was guided by three research questions which were on characteristics, similarities and differences between Ghanaian and Chinese teacher educationAt the University of Cape Coast-Ghana,Purposive sampling was used to sample eleven(11)faculty members from the Department of Basic Education, simple random sampling was used to sample sixty-two(62)normal students/teacher trainees which included first to fourth year students and thirty(30)mentors from the schools where students at the Department of Basic Education practice teaching. In the same vein, purposive sampling was used to sample fifteen(15)faculty members from the School of Teacher Education of Shaoxing University, simple random sampling was used to sample sixty-five(65)normal students/teacher trainees and twenty-five(25)mentors from the schools where students practice teaching. The instrument used were questionnaire, interview and observation. The data was subjected to frequency, percentage and likert scale mean analysis to address the three research questions formulated to guide the study. The findings revealed inadequate skills for identifying individual learning needs in order to plan lessons based on individual learning needs. Also the study revealed inadequate content knowledge courses for students of both universities on special education and inclusion education and again no content course on school administration and management for students of Shaoxing University. There was overwhelming evidence that the time allocation for offcampus practicum which is only one semester for final year students is inadequate taking into account the kind of competencies and experiences that mentees have to acquire. It is therefore recommended one whole year off-campus practicum for students to acquire the needed practical skills and intensify its supervision. It is further that the leadership of the Department of Basic Education of UCC and the School of Teacher Education intensify the content knowledge of students on special education and inclusion education while the curricula of the School of Teacher Education should be infused with content knowledge course on school management and administration.
