Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) contributes a great percentage to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in ensuring economic growth and development in most developing countries like Ghana.In spite of the roles most of these industries are now collapsing as a result of not performing creditably well.It is in line with this that this study was undertaken in order to identify the core problem of SMEs which of course is financial challenges.Nkulenu Industries Ltd now a household name in Accra, Ghana is a radiant example of success story of SMEs.It products which had stood the test of time and never compromised it high quality of canned products with difference ranges of goods to keep it numerous consumers satisfy is the first African SME to be certified by both American and European Standardization Organizations outside the shores of Africa.The researcher choice of Nkulenu Industries is inspired by a dream of success is still possible in the face of financial set-back which is the common and crucial barrier that that crumble any big dream to set-up an SME and nourish it to maturity by determine entrepreneur of these industries and come out with ways and means which will establish and sustain the vibrancy of SMEs so that they can play the expected vital roles as the engine of growth in our economic development.In order to investigate the challenges, a conceptual and theoretical framework of the study was designed.These helped to design data collection instrument for the study.The study revealed among other things that: lack of access to credit, high percentage of self-financing of SMEs, high female and youth domination, low level of education among entrepreneurs,In view of these challenges, major recommendations include the need for setting up a common board to regulate the activities of the SMEs support institution, setting up SMEs fund at all the District, Metropolitan Municipal level to support SMEs activities,establishment of SMEs Bank in Ghana and Formation of SMEs policies to control them.Effective implementation of the recommendation could lead to growth of SMEs sector in Accra Metropolitan Assembly and eventually result in creation of employment as well as poverty reduction in Ghana which is in conformity with United Nations resolution on jobs creation and poverty elimination as earmarked in Millennium Development Goals MGDs 2020.
