The verbs in Modern Japanese Language are divided into intransitive and transitive verbs as per usage and grammatical significance. One of the most persuasive reasons is that there is corresponding syntax between Japanese intransitive and transitive verbs. In the creation of classical works and songs, the capability to discern intransitive and transitive verbs is always required when an option has to be made for an accurate word form of a verb that best suits for certain context, and such capability is also very much necessary in the study of modern Japanese Language. At present, remarkable progress has been made in the research on these verbs, it is safe to say that the research has outlined the tense of the intransitive and transitive verbs. Nevertheless, there is not yet a clear criterion available to follow as the principle and standard to discern the intransitive and transitive verbs.Especially the ability to distinguish intransitive verbs from transitive verbs that are derived from same stem is very difficult to command, and often these two types of verbs are confused and misused.Basing upon the previous attainment of research, this treatise reclassifies the intransitive and the transitive verbs that are of correspondence and derivation, investigates the phonetic and morphological properties of these two types of verbs, and discusses the corresponding relations between the two types of verbs. The purpose of the treatise is to seek a simple and readable approach to distinguish intransitive and transitive verbs. As grammatical forms, intransitive and transitive verbs exist in many languages. The agglutinative Korean Language, like Japanese Language, also has this grammatical practice which is widely used. Despite the presence of similarities between Japanese and Korean Languages in terms of syntax changes and the sequence of words, ye these two languages have respective standards to classify intransitive and transitive verbs. In addition, intransitive and transitive verbs in Korean language, be it in causative or passive form, use the same suffix, therefore, for Japanese Language learners whose native language is Korean, the grammar about the intransitive and transitive verbs is also one of the difficult part in grammatical study.Basing on the characteristics of intransitive and transitive verbs in Japanese language, this treatise gives an exploration over the corresponding Korean language. To carry out a comparative study on the intransitive and transitive verbs in Japanese and Korean languages is another purpose of this article. This treatise makes the study in the following three aspects. Firstly, in beginning of introduction to the previous research, the treatise gives clear definitions on the intransitive and transitive verbs of modern Japanese language, and delivers the research point of view of this study. Secondly, basing on the previous study, it makes a reclassification on the intransitive and transitive verbs in modern Japanese language, and morphologically, carries out an investigation and an analysis over the corresponding relations between the two types of verbs. The following conclusion is yielded from the investigation:in terms of form, despite that intransitive and transitive verbs in Japanese Language have no absolute principle of correspondence, yet phonetically and morphologically, there is clear distinction between the two types of verbs, a couple of rules on the form of correspondence have already been accepted.Thirdly, this treatise looks into the morphological characteristics of Korean verbs corresponding to Japanese intransitive and transitive verbs, and gives a discussion over the common and different points of the two languages. Basing upon the analysis, conclusion is made as follows:the intransitive and corresponding transitive verbs in Japanese language are represented in the form of structural correspondence, and it is morphologically clearly distinguished in the passive and causative form of the two types of verbs. While in Korean Language, morphologically, for the intransitive and transitive verbs, it is hard to tell the difference between their causative and passive forms, and a distinction can be made by resorting to the contextual continuity and structure.Lastly, the treatise gives a final conclusion and brings forth future task.
