1946年8月,美国康奈尔大学农牧系27岁的毕业生欧文·恩格斯特被斯诺的《西行漫记》所感染,特别是受到了同窗好友韩丁的影响,辗转来到延安。恩格斯特到中国时,进步的新闻记者羊枣不久前刚刚死于国民党监狱中,延安的中国朋友就把“羊枣”的同音字“阳早”送给了恩格斯特,希望他能够成为中国共产党的忠诚朋友和同志。就这样,恩格斯特带着“阳早同志”这个称呼,在中国工作、生活了50多年。羊枣是怎样—位记者?他有什么样的事迹和成就?为什么活着的朋友对他有如此深厚的感情?战争年代牺牲的同志成千上万,为什么惟独要将他名字的同音字送给一位美国朋友?—个个疑问在笔者的进一步探询中逐一找到了答案。
