Hepatitis C co-infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) or hepatitis D virus (HDV) may be one of the major causes of severe and chronic hepatitis. To investigate the prevalence of overlapping HCV and HDV infections in patients with hepatitis B in the region, we tested positive for hepatitis B virus infection markers (HBVM) (including two or more of HB-sAg, HBeAg, HBcAg or anti-HBc) A total of 155 patients with various types of hepatitis, cirrhosis and primary liver cancer were tested for anti-HCV, HDAg and anti-HD in order to explore the impact of HCV or HDV overlap infection on the prognosis of patients with hepatitis B. 1 materials and methods
