Many workers have described the appearance of these dykes in the wild and Foster (1970) lists a complete list of known places of origin. Figure 1 shows the kimberlite rock near Ithaca, New York. Most of the samples identified in this study were taken from the Cascadilla Gorge dyke, Taughannock Creek dyke and the Poyer Orchard volcanic channel. The Glenwood Creek dyke is located at the cove just north of the Poyer Orchard volcano trail. The Zartman et al. (1967) standard was taken from the Portland Point open-pit dyke.
