I. The Western Region Economy with Both Challenging Challenges and Opportunities The pattern of China’s economic eastward light west has lasted for 50 years. This left a host of problems to the western region such as backward industrial structure, low efficiency and low economic affinities The state-owned economy has been slow to develop.
