This article discusses the design of the best cryogenic refrigeration system using the LBL Computer GEOTHM program. The program is widely used to design the optimal thermal cycle and other power cycles. The GEOTHM program calculates a variety of thermodynamic cycles, including refrigeration cycles. GEOTHM has an optimization program that optimizes the parameters of a single-step thermodynamic cycle. Refrigeration cycles up to 55 best-in-class parameters can be designed to minimize cooling costs and maximize thermal efficiency. The application of the optimization procedure to two liquid nitrogen refrigeration cycles is also discussed, minimizing the refrigeration costs and minimizing the input power of these cycles.
