This article discusses the importance and requirements of fiber optic cable attenuation measurements, introduces the main measurement methods and their characteristics and compares them. This paper focuses on the analysis of the factors that affect the accuracy of the injection conditions and the importance of steady-state mode, and several steady-state mode simulation methods are summarized and compared. There are also implications for the development of standards for viable advanced measurement methods.
