Azimuth-dependent P-wave amplitude response to offset variation (AVO) theoretically correlates with the direction of opening the fracture and has been proposed as a geophysical approach to identifying fracture directions in fractured reservoirs. Recently, field experiments conducted above the fractured reservoirs in the Barinas Basin, Venezuela provided good experimental data for this method. We used 3-component geophones to collect data for 3 lines in 3 different orientations. The distribution of fractures in the reservoir was previously obtained by measuring shear-wave splitting using the P-S conversion slope of this dataset. In this work, we use P-wave data to see if the same information can be obtained with the P-wave AVO response as the orientation changes. The results obtained from the azimuthal P-wave AVO analysis confirm the fracture direction previously obtained with P-S converted waves. This field data analysis shows that there is a great potential for using P- waves to detect fractures in seismic wave propagation.
