Gas Boat Communication Japanese scientists have designed an inflatable airship that replaces a communications satellite. This helium-filled airship can fly at an altitude of 20,000 meters and reflect the mobile phone signal back to Earth. Since its height is much lower than that of a satellite, a high-powered microphone is not required and the telephone can be made small and light. Now, Japan has already launched three small experimentally charged airships that are 8 meters long. The airships used for communications can reach a length of 20 meters and are made of several layers of high-strength polyethylene-coated membranes. The filling gas is 10%
