黄宾虹先生在古画品评中认为:“倪迂渴笔,墨无渣滓,精洁不污,厚若丹青。其后惟僧渐江,为得斯趣。”可见水墨山水若不锤炼笔墨,则“非入枯硬,即流柔靡”。湖南青年山水画家肖忆忱深知黄宾虹先生关于笔墨论述之玄机,也十分喜欢先生的山水画,但他轻描摹重解读,在寻找与先生神交的境界。在他看来,山泉流鸣、巉岩峥嵘、树木葱茏、雾岚飘拂,只是他所要表达的绘画语言中借助的元素而已。他借助这些元素来构建自己心目中的“自成一格”的艺术圣殿。于是,他用心、用自己的人生经历来重塑自己的山水艺术。他追求人格上的孤独与脱俗,在艺术的追求上经历过无数次心灵的洗礼与蜕变。
