(CIMC) gains good fames in the international and domestic capital markets. However, the outside world knows little about its trailer business. In fact, after CIMC becomes the largest supplier of dry bulk containers, oil containers, reefer containers and airport boarding bridges, the company is aiming to become the world No.1 supplier of trailers. According to its Q1 report this year, the company sold more than 18,000 trailers and achieved revenue of RMB1.37 billion (US$170 million), an increase of 46.1% over the same period of last year. Though the sales figure of trailers accounted for only 20% of the total sales revenue, it shed some light on the company's plan to transform its business and product structure. In the past three years, CIMC acquired Tonghua,China Koegel, Huajun, and some other companies, adding huge production capacity to CIMC's own newly-built production base. These moves secure CIMC's position as the No.1 trailer supplier in China. Moreover, North America and Europe together account for three fourths of the world trailer market. By integrating with the US-based Vangard, CIMC swiftly expanded its trailer business in North America. Though CIMC Vangardranks No.1 1 in the marketat the moment, it is expected to surpass Great Dean, the No.1 supplier in North America very soon, considering its production in the US and import from China. In addition, CIMC indirectly obtained 75% rights of Burg, a Dutch company which is one of the most important suppliers of land transportation equipment in Europe with subsidiaries and branches covering major European countries and South Africa. The deal has been approved by China's authorities and is under anti-monopoly investigation by the EU. If approved, CIMC will bring its world business layout into reality.
