宝卷的题材很多源自小说,小说故事在进入民间宝卷之后,不可避免地发生了从内容到形式的诸多改变,除了文体形式之外,还包括了人物塑造与情节设置的神道化倾向。这种神道化倾向由宝卷的宗教属性所决定,是宝卷作为多神信仰之载体,在改编小说故事为己用的过程中,不断进行文体整合的结果。在民间多神信仰的生成过程中,作为说唱文学代表的宝卷是其定型和成熟的重要环节。
