人工气候室是用人工方法创造各种气候环境的一种设施。它是由美国著名物理学家温特发明的。自1949年6月在美国建成以来,人工气候室在现代科学技术各个领域中得到了广泛的应用。人工气候室一般由大容量的空气调节器和人工光源控制系统等组成。室内温湿度、光照、风速等全部可以自动控制。它能模拟北极的严寒、非洲的炎热、急风暴雨等等气候。在各种人工气候室中,规模最大的是模拟温室,面积从几十至几百平方米,目前世界最大的模拟温室面积为2400公顷(1公顷=15亩),
