王连铮教授1954年毕业于东北农学院,1962年毕业于莫斯科季米里亚捷夫农学院。1987年底-1991年担任中国农业科学院院长,曾任四、五届中国科学技术协会副主席,中国作物学会五、六届理事长,中国农学会副会长,国际农业和生物科学中心理事(英国,CABI),现任中国种子协会理事长、中国农村专业技术协会理事长,俄罗斯农业科学院和印度农业科学院院士。数十年来,王连铮教授在大豆育种理论上,提出降低大豆株高的四种途径,有限与无限结荚习性,大豆杂交可产生超亲遗传,并提出单株粒重与产量相关极显著,倒伏性、每荚粒数、三四粒荚数、每节荚数和百粒重与产量呈显著相关。同时对野生大豆、半野生大豆及栽培大豆的进化和分类进行了研究。他在高产、高油、高蛋白、广适应性和抗孢囊线虫育种等方面有很多建树。王连铮教授先后撰写论文及文章164篇,专著,合著《温饱十亿人》、
