Ralph Ellison’s early short stories portray the experiences of Afro-Americans and gradually demonstrate Ellison’s artistic talent. This article explores their narrative features from the perspective of narratology (narrative perspective and inner expression of inner thoughts), reveals how Ellison gradually perfects the narrative strategy of the novel and closely integrates with the novel’s theme of exploring black identity, Leeson’s early short story creation made the necessary preparations for “invisible people.”
